A Guide to Campus Cycling by Wolverines on Wheels

Wolverines on Wheels (WoW) is a student organization dedicated to building a safe, accessible, and sustainable bicycling community on the Ann Arbor campus. The group aims to support and advocate for all members of the Ann Arbor bicycling community and guarantee that students, faculty, and staff can benefit from and contribute to a bike-friendly campus. Whether you're a complete beginner or seasoned cyclist, we are excited to welcome you to U-M’s biking community!

The students at WoW compiled a list of resources and tools for bike enthusiasts on campus. Check back often for updates and information on group rides! For peer-to-peer support on biking or bike resources, email wolverinesonwheels-admin@umich.edu

Where to Get a Bike

Earn a Bike

The Cycling Forward Program, by Wolverines on Wheels, offers refurbished bicycles from the bike recycling initiative and gives them back to the campus community at no cost.

  • Participating members will earn points through September and October by joining group rides, supporting community events, and volunteering for advocacy initiatives. All participants who earn 8 points are eligible for the bike distribution lottery in mid-October. Bikes come with locks, helmets, and lights, plus access to our repair workshops and cycling community.

Rent a Bike

At MRecreation Adventure Leadership, bike rentals are first-come, first-served and can be reserved for up to a month at a time. All bikes come with a helmet, lights, and a lock.

Buy a Bike

Common Cycle, Ann Arbor’s bike cooperative, provides free bike repair education and workshop space where you can connect with volunteers and community cyclists.

Daily Commuters

Commuting by bike promotes a culture of sustainability at U-M, reduces our carbon footprint, helps riders stay healthy, reduces traffic, and allows riders to enjoy the beautiful scenery and design of Ann Arbor.

Bike Parking on Campus

8,500+ spaces across campus through Logistics, Transportation, and Parking

  • Outdoor racks for quick stops
  • Indoor storage for security (at cost)
  • Lockers for premium protection (at cost: located at Wolverine Tower, Space Research, and the Medical Campus)

How to Secure Your Bike

Register your bike with the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS). This program was created to deter theft and assist in the recovery of property in the event of a loss.

Review the Common Cycle’s Bike Lock PSA. This guide provides resources on properly securing your bike to prevent theft.
